Sis, can you agree our world is changing every day? Changing in ways we cannot take a moment to digest what is going on or figure out how it affects our business or most importantly our faith. It’s easy to get sucked into the negativity we see as we scroll on our phones or turn on our tv. It’s also easy to let the goals we set for ourselves in the beginning of the year wash away. I challenge you to take the remainder of your year to strive for 100 days of excellence and join us in prayer. Here are three reasons why you need to sign up: Put It In Gear:
This is your time. God has placed a fire in you to strive in your purpose and to not allow fears discourage you. TOGETHER each week we will walk through our weekly guides to define your prayer strategy. In our intimate conversations you will share your prayer request, discuss what this process looks like for you specifically, and seek clarity. Affirm This Year: We have the choice to change how we describe this year. During our prayer challenge we will take the moment to tell ourselves what we learned from this year instead of what we did not accomplish. We will be honest with ourselves on how this year changed our lives for the better rather than for the worst. Affirm this year to reach your goals you have set for yourself. Accountability: Sometimes we need that extra push and be a part of an inclusive community and connect with a prayer partner who is ready to take on this next step in their faith journey. We encourage our sisters to bring openness, honesty, for you to share your goals, and most importantly- How can we pray for you? Do not do not count yourself out of 2020! Sign up here to join us every Monday at 6:30pm for prayer and an intimate conversation to continue to strive in excellence. Interested in seeing how this works? Check out the initial session in this video.

I remember the day George Zimmerman was acquitted very vividly. I spent the week leading to the verdict watching the trial in dismay, mourning Trayvon’s death, and hopefully expecting the change America had been promising me. And then, the fear of an adult white man was worth more than a black boy’s life. There was not much that could console me, because all the deepest fears about the world I lived in were confirmed. I buried my grief concerning racial injustice under the Cross. I acknowledged that what I needed, the hope I had in America, had to be redirected to the Savior.
The Zimmerman trial were years before I would give birth to my son...years before I would march down Cottage Grove with #MamasoftheMovement. But, the brokenness that I experienced from the Zimmerman trial is still very real to me. It changed how I approached justice. I vowed to do more than hashtag. I vowed to create real change. I vowed to be the change. Today, I am the wife to a Black man. He and I are raising two black children. I am the CEO of the first collaborative space for Black Christian female professionals. And although all those things have changed, I still find myself at the Cross burying my grief. But, this time is different. This time, you are here with me. I hope to create a gathering at the feet of the Savior that allows us to fight injustice through prayer. This time I know my grief is a shared experience. This time I have a platform and a responsibility. All together, but separate On May 23, the 18th Ward Alderman Derrick Curtis, the Greater Chicago Food Depository and a host of community partners held a community food giveaway. Our home, Monument of Faith Evanglistic Church and our Private Office Partner, The Legacy Group, were among the organizers. In the era of Covid-19, food giveaways and community events are both needed and daunting. The alderman, businesses and churches from the 18th Ward found a way to answer the need for the community. Cars were ushered through an assembly line where they were loaded with jam-packed boxes of produce and a pail of essential supplies from Lowe's. Hundreds of boxes were donated to members of the community and our founder got a welcomed opportunity to see Apostle Mark Henton and Quiana Hardy. "It was awesome to see how all these different entities worked to bring the ward together. It was also an awesome way to begin our work of building the 31:17 impact," 31:17 Founder, Markeyla Henton said. 31:17 is a safe space dedicated to empowering women of faith and providing the proper resources to prosper in their personal and professional growth. Our commitment is to create a community where our members are surrounded by influential women striving to build their spiritual strength, accomplish their entrepreneurial goals and grow their tribe. We are thrilled to officially announce we are opening the virtual membership to grow our family of women.

Most of us see prayer as a thing to check off of our to-do list. We pray to talk to God with no expectation to hear back from him. But, God never intended for our prayer time to be a mumbling moment that adds limited value to our day. Prayer can be a conversation. In the era of Covid-19 and quarantine, prayer must be a conversation for the believer who is an entrepreneur. I have heard so many business owners discuss how they are augmenting their businesses to deal with coronavirus. And yet, I haven't heard much about how bosses are using their faith to tackle this hard time.
So, how do you turn your "God is good, God is great" ritual into discourse with the Creator that changes your business? This post below is meant to give you a roadmap to changing the fabric of your prayer life. This pivot will not only step up your prayer game but it will also take your business strategy from self-constructed to God-constructed. But, before I get into the checklist and the resources let me say this; You are not going to get far if you are unwilling to surrender in this season. Surrender your ideas of what you could have done in the absence of this crisis. Surrender your expectations of how you, your clients and your staff are supposed to be handling this season. But, most importantly, surrender your idea of what your business is. This pandemic may have been the very thing God was waiting on for you to come into the fullness of His will. |
